Participants in the fourth annual Latin America Clown Congress (AP)If you're among the majority of voters who think the U.S. Congress is a joke, imagine a congress literally composed of clowns. That's what is happening right now in Guatemala City, where two hundred professional clowns have gathered for the fourth annual Latin American Clown Congress.
Clowns from across Central American, South America and the Caribbean gather each year for three days in the country's capital city to exchange ideas and attend workshops.
Of course, if you were one of those kids who found clowns to be terrifying, this gathering could stir up all kinds of childhood traumas.
Among the variety of clowns in attendance are jugglers, a clown dressed as a soldier and even one dressed as a nun. Participants in the Clown Congress parade through the streets of Guatemala City before getting down to business.

I just returned from the MHEDA Convention and, based on attendee feedback, it was very successful. Nineteen speakers and 16 presentations supported the theme ?Re Imagine Your Business,? including Walter Bond, who opened the convention with a presentation on accountability and how you can make your organization more productive. I was very interested in Institute for Trend Research economist Alan Beaulieu?s presentation. At the 2008 Convention, I had heard his brother?s presentation and, based on what he said, our company took some steps to prepare us for 2009. Alan was very optimistic about the future and gave some recommendations on what companies should be doing based on where the industry is in the economic recovery. David Arvin, The Visibility Coach, made recommendations on how to brand your company and gain top of mind awareness over your competitors. William Walker, president of The Walker Consulting Group, discussed the impact of team selling and a coordinated approach with a single message to customers.

Earlier this month 3,500 UK troops were drafted in to fulfil key security responsibilities after G4S admitted it had not employed enough staff. Culture secretary Jeremy Hunt said the additional troops showed the government was leaving ?nothing to chance?. ?Security staffing levels at venues have been kept under constant review,? he said. ?G4S numbers continue to rise significantly and we have every expectation that will continue to be the case.? Locog chief executive Paul Deighton said the deployment should not be seen as a further indictment of G4S. ?The reason that this decision has been taken is just to absolutely de-risk any aspect of the operation,? he explained. ?We now have the full military deployment to deliver these Games in just about any scenario, so I?m confident about that.?
